Disabled dating in East Sussex
From Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings to Lewes, Bexhill and Rye, meet disabled singles across East Sussex, where the Downs run down to the sea.
East Sussex at a glance
East Sussex is small enough that nowhere feels too far. The South Downs come right down to the coast, where you will find piers, pebble beaches and chalk cliffs, and behind them sit old towns like Rye, Lewes and Battle. Eastbourne has a long seafront and a growing arts scene, Hastings has kept its fishing-town feel, and Brighton is never short of something to do. It is a county made for slow afternoons.

Disability dating in East Sussex, along the coast and beyond
Most of East Sussex lives along the coast, and the railway follows it, so a match in Eastbourne and one in Hastings are only a short train ride apart. You will see the people nearest you first, and you can stretch the search into Kent, West Sussex or London whenever you like. For a first meeting, a seafront café is ideal: level, easy to find, and if the conversation flags there is always the sea to look at.
Dating for disabled people in East Sussex, made easier
Dating with a disability takes a bit of planning, and there is no shame in that. Say in your profile what helps: a bench every so often, a place with a lift, a short first date. If you are autistic and prefer quiet, a weekday morning on the seafront is calmer than a Saturday in the Lanes. Members here get it, so you can be straightforward from your very first message.
East Sussex: accessible first-date ideas
Seafront dates are about as easy as dating gets. Check access before you go, especially in the older towns.
Eastbourne seafront
A long, flat, well-kept promenade with the pier and the bandstand along it, and level cafés to stop in.
De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill
A modernist building right on the seafront, fully accessible and free to wander round. Meet over coffee and an exhibition.
Cuckmere Haven
The view of the Seven Sisters cliffs from the level path along the Cuckmere valley near Seaford. The clifftops are rough, so stay in the valley.
Sheffield Park and Garden
A National Trust garden of lakes and trees, with accessible parking and step-free routes through parts of it.
Bodiam Castle
A moated castle straight out of a picture book. There is accessible parking and partial step-free access, so check the details before you go.
Brighton seafront
A long, flat promenade from Hove to the Palace Pier, with benches and cafés all along it. Busy at weekends, calmer on a weekday morning.
Getting around East Sussex
A coastal railway links Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings, with direct trains to London, while the A27 and A259 follow the shore. Seafront and town-centre car parks usually include Blue Badge bays. Rye and Hastings Old Town are full of steep, uneven streets, so if hills or cobbles are hard for either of you, meet on the seafront and wander as far as suits you. Rail staff can help you on and off the train if you book it before the day.
East Sussex County Council and, in the city, Brighton & Hove City Council each run the concessionary bus pass for disabled residents. Either pass gets you on local buses without a fare at off-peak times, here or anywhere in England.

East Sussex: your questions
Which East Sussex seafront is best for a wheelchair?
Eastbourne's promenade is long, flat and well kept, and Bexhill's front leads straight to the step-free De La Warr Pavilion. Brighton's seafront is level too, though busier.
Is there a disabled dating site for Brighton and East Sussex?
Disability Dates is free to join for disabled singles in Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes and the rest of East Sussex. Members close to you are listed first.
Is Rye accessible?
Rye is lovely, but its cobbled lanes are uneven and steep in places. Stick to the smoother streets and the quay, or choose a flatter town for a first date.
Are there quiet places for a first date in Brighton?
The Hove end of the seafront is calmer than the area around the pier, and a weekday morning anywhere along the front is much quieter than a weekend afternoon.
