Disabled dating in North Yorkshire
From York and Harrogate to Scarborough, Whitby, Ripon and Northallerton, meet disabled singles across England's biggest county and choose a first date that does not mean a long drive.
North Yorkshire at a glance
No English county is bigger than North Yorkshire, and it covers a lot: the old city of York, Harrogate's gardens, the Dales and the Moors, and a coast that runs from Scarborough up to Whitby. Because it is so big, distance matters more here than in most places. It makes sense to look first at people within reach and to choose meeting places on a bus or train route, so a good date does not end with an hour's drive home.

Disability dating in North Yorkshire, without the long drive
A match in Whitby and a match in Skipton are both in North Yorkshire, but they are a long way from each other. Disability Dates shows you the members closest to you first, which helps a lot in a county this size. When you do get as far as a date, York and Harrogate make good meeting points for much of the county: both have trains, level centres and plenty of places to sit. On the coast, the seafront at Scarborough is a simple choice.
Dating for disabled people in North Yorkshire, one step at a time
There is no need to rush into meeting. Lots of members swap messages for a while, then have a phone or video call, and only after that set a date. That suits a county where a trip out takes some planning. Say what you need for the day: a parking space close to the door, a table out of the draught, time to rest before the drive home. A good match will be pleased you thought ahead.
North Yorkshire: accessible first-date ideas
Gardens, museums and riverside paths with easy ground. Some old streets are cobbled, so plan your route before you go.
RHS Harlow Carr, Harrogate
Smooth paths, scooters on loan and a Bettys tea room waiting at the end. Hard to get wrong.
National Railway Museum, York
Free, fully accessible and full of things to talk about. Ideal when the weather turns.
York Museum Gardens
Level, peaceful gardens beside the river and the abbey ruins, a few minutes from the Minster.
Valley Gardens, Harrogate
Flat Victorian gardens in the middle of town, with the wide green Stray a short way off.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal
A National Trust World Heritage Site near Ripon, where accessible routes lead through the water gardens and deer park.
Knaresborough riverside
The viaduct over the Nidd and gentle waterside paths. Pretty enough that you will not run short of things to say.
Getting around North Yorkshire
The A1(M) runs down the county, and trains serve York, Northallerton, Harrogate and Scarborough. York is a big step-free station with fast trains north and south, and you can arrange assistance there before you set off. Away from the towns a car is often the easiest way about, and most big visitor attractions set aside Blue Badge spaces. In York itself the Shambles and other medieval lanes are cobbled and the city walls have steps, so plan around them rather than through them.
Eligible disabled people can get a free bus pass from North Yorkshire Council, or from City of York Council if you live in the city. Off-peak bus travel is then free, in North Yorkshire and across England.

I love to travel and have not let my disability stop me doing this. I love to cook and eat. But more important than that is sharing it with someone. I am now a single dad and my boy is the centre of my universe.

The theatre makes me the happiest. I would love to meet someone who matches my vibe, enjoys a good laugh and can appreciate the harder days.

North Yorkshire: your questions
Is York good for a date if I use a wheelchair?
Much of it is. The Museum Gardens and the National Railway Museum are level and accessible. The Shambles is cobbled and the walls have steps, so leave those out of the plan.
Is there a disabled dating site for York and North Yorkshire?
Disability Dates is a free-to-join UK site for disabled singles, with members in York, Harrogate, along the coast and in the Dales. People near you show up first.
What is an easy first date in Harrogate?
A stroll through the Valley Gardens or round RHS Harlow Carr, where you can borrow a mobility scooter, then tea afterwards.
I live in a Dales village. Is it worth joining?
Yes. You will see whoever is nearest to you first, and if nobody close suits, you can look across to West Yorkshire or the North East.
